A special exhibition taking place at the Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Art looks into the trends of nanga throughout the prefecture. Nanga is a school of art which grew in the late Edo period, and typically consisted of works in monochrome ink.

The event will have a specific focus on works by Tani Buncho (1763 - 1841), who was seen as a driving force behind nanga in the Kanto region.

Adult admission to the event is priced at 900 yen.

Getting there

The Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Art is located around 15 minutes by bus from the JR Utsunomiya Station, served by the Tōhoku Shinkansen, the Yamagata Shinkansen, the Tohoku Main Line (Utsunomiya Line), and the Nikkō Line.

For those who plan to drive to the museum, it's located around 15 minutes from the Kanuma IC or 20 minutes from the Utsunomiya IC on the Tohoku Expressway. Free on-site parking is available for up to 80 vehicles.
