A two-day event in Shizuoka Prefecture this winter is set to bring a variety of sweet potato vendors from across Japan to Sunpu Castle Park. The Sweet Potato Festival will allow visitors to sample and compare potato varieties from different regions and with different cooking styles, including stone-grilling, pot-grilling, and special oven baking techniques.
The event will also incorporate various hands-on activities to take part in, such as workshops about sweet potato roasting, cooking classes, and more.
The event takes place at Sunpu Castle Park's Momijiyama Garden Square. The venue can be accessed in 15 minutes on foot from JR Shizuoka Station (Tokaido Shinkansen, Tokaido Main Line), or 12 minutes on foot from Shin-Shizuoka Station (Shizutetsu Line).
Buses are also available from the stations if you'd prefer not to walk – take the Koshizu Sumpu Roman Community Bus which does a loop around some of the area's top tourist attractions. The travel time by bus is about 5 minutes from Shizuoka Station, or 11 minutes from Shin-Shizuoka Station.
