The best place to park your travel-satiated body

Of the many places we visited in the Oki Islands, Nishinoshima is home to one of the most memorable travel experiences I've had there: a hike down the rolling Matengai Cliff, as we wound our way around grazing horses and black haired cows, capped with an awe-inspiring view of the Tsutenkyo Arch. It is only fitting that our accommodation on the islands is just as memorable. Continue to enjoy views of the sea from Kuniga-so's guest rooms. You're doubly lucky if you're booked in the corner room. For the ultimate relaxation, head to the public bath within the hotel. Tastefully tiled with anti-slip rocks that also bring the outdoors in, feel your travel-satiated body melt into bliss. Expect the traditional hospitality of a Japanese ryokan for dinner and breakfast.

Getting there

Kuniga-so is about a 15 minute drive from Nishinoshima's Beppu Port. The hotel can provide transportation service to and from the port (reservations required).

The best place to park my body after a full day of sightseeing.
The best room in the hotel we jokingly called, "The Honeymoon Suite."
A regular Japanese-style guest room (Western style guest rooms with beds are also available).
The lobby with its bright red carpet has a kitschy charm to it.
Overhead is a photo of the grand Tsutenkyo Arch, one of the must-see views on the island. A pretty good selection of omiage (presents) are available at the lobby.
What greets you as you pull up to Kuniga-so.
