Highlights from the Celadon & Buncheongware collection

Celadon saved Darius’s life. In the blistering heat of the Persian summer, a secret plot to take his life was taking place. Pickled vegetables were laced with poison, and served at his wedding feast. Fortunately, the Celadon plate cracked once the poison seeped through the porous plate, and Darius lived to another day. Such was the legendary acclaim that Celadon pottery had, it acquired prescient qualities. Whether this actually worked or not did not matter, for the Persians had traveled far and wide to find Celadon for its life saving applications. At the Osaka Museum of Oriental Ceramics, china from around the world comes to life with its thought provoking exhibits.
