Hiroshima Castle's main keep will close on 22 Mar 2026, because the current construction does not meet modern earthquake safety standards. As of mid-2025, discussions over any future reconstruction of the castle (e.g. a fully wooden but costly reconstruction) are ongoing.

Latest on Hiroshima Castle

Held annually on the vernal equinox, the Hiroshima Warmed Sake Festival allows visitors to sample a variety of local brews heated up. The benefits of drinking sake warm, called kanzake in Japanese, relate to the flavors being expressed – heat is said to enhance the taste.

Advance tickets for the Hiroshima Kanzake Festival will be priced at ¥2,000, which includes six drinks. Information on how to purchase advance tickets should be added to the official event website in the near future. On the day of the event the sake brews will be priced at ¥400 per cup, and there will be foods that pair well with sake available for purchase.

交通方式

Hiroshima Castle Ninomaru can be accessed in about 10 minutes on foot from JR Shin-Hakushima station, or approximately 20 minutes from Hiroshima station.

For those who would prefer to use public transport, the castle grounds can be accessed via the Hiroshima Sightseeing Bus – take the orange or yellow route.
