Sanrio fans heading to Japan this summer might want to clear their calendars. A new collaboration stay themed around Pompompurin is coming to Hotel New Otani Hakata, and reservations are expected to be snapped up quickly.

The “Pompompurin x Hotel New Otani Hakata” experience opens bookings for summer stays starting Monday, June 1st, 2026. Rooms will be available for stays between July and September 2026, giving fans a limited window to step directly into Pompompurin’s world while visiting Fukuoka.

This year’s collaboration is extra special because it marks Pompompurin’s 30th anniversary. To celebrate, the hotel is rolling out exclusive merchandise that cannot be purchased anywhere else, including new anniversary-themed water bottles and bucket hats. These join returning favorites like the commemorative card key and card key case, which feature a surprise illustration only visible when opened.

For collectors, there is also a wider lineup of original goods available during the stay. These include plush toys, acrylic charms, Imabari towels, and Hakata-ori pouches, each designed with details that tie back to both the character and local Japanese craftsmanship. The plush even includes a small “HAKATA” detail on its feet, making it a meaningful travel souvenir.

The experience isn't just about merchandise. Guests can choose between two themed room styles, turning an ordinary hotel stay into something closer to a themed attraction.

For those unfamiliar, Pompompurin is a laid-back golden retriever character from Sanrio, first introduced in 1996. He is known for his love of naps, outings, and pudding, and has remained a fan favorite for decades thanks to his easygoing personality.

Bookings are online only and limited, with just a small number of rooms available each day. Prices start from around 40,000 JPY per person per night, including breakfast and taxes, with higher rates on weekends and holidays. It's not the most budget-friendly stay in Fukuoka, but for fans, the combination of exclusive goods, themed rooms, and memories you can’t really replicate elsewhere makes it feel like a fair trade-off.
