Lotus is beautiful. But in Japan it represents more than just 'beauty'. Due to its relation to Buddhism, any Japanese would feel something holy or sacred when they see it. I am no exception. Although I'm not religious, when I first saw rows and rows of lotus flowers blooming here I thought I was in 'Gokuraku Jodo (Buddhist's pure land, heaven). This lotus park is located in rural Minami Echizen, an hour drive from the center of Fukui City, and as you can imagine not many people visit here despite its scale.
