Kashihara City, in Nara prefecture, is known as the birthplace of Japan's imperial house as well as the former location of its ancient Fujiwara Capital. Visitors to this region can expect a trip back in time, with the chance to visit numerous ancient ruins and the former palace grounds themselves

One of Kashihara's other best kept secrets includes Imai-cho – an Edo period town with over 500 historical, merchant houses – several of which carry Important Cultural Property status in recognition of their heritage.
