It’s officially locked in. For the first time since 2015, the Tokyo Bay Grand Fireworks Festival will be held in late October 2026.

Organized by Chuo Ward, the event will be revived as part of celebrations marking the ward’s 80th anniversary next fiscal year. First launched in 1988, the festival quickly became one of Tokyo’s most popular summer events. Each year, more than 12,000 fireworks lit up the night sky near Harumi Wharf, drawing crowds of around 700,000 people.

The event had been suspended since 2016 due to the construction of the Olympic and Paralympic Village in the Harumi area. Since then, many residents and fans have expressed hope for its return.

Now, after an 11-year break, preparations are underway to bring the fireworks festival back to life. Specific details like viewing spots and the event schedule will be announced closer to the date. For those who have missed it, this promises to be a welcome return of a Tokyo favorite.
