Reef Break Resort

A little slice of paradise in Chiba

Tokyo is one of my favorite cities, especially my neighborhoods, of Taito-ku and Bunkyo-ku. But sometimes one just has to get out of the bustling concrete jungle and take in the serenity and beauty of nature found here in Japan.

One of my favorite regions to go to experience nature is Chiba prefecture and one of my favorite places to experience nature by the ocean is Reef Break Resort. Just over an hour or so away from Tokyo by car or train lies a little slice of ocean-side paradise. A perfect getaway for family, friends or couples. Located in a small, lush valley with only one way in or out it is about as private as it gets.

The main accommodation is a large yurt. It has everything you need to cook, relax and chill out and has its own entertainment center for music and DVD/CD playing as well as free WI-Fi.

Outside the Yurt, the spacious grounds provide you with your own hot tub overlooking the Pacific Ocean, an outdoor barbeque and your own private bar and kitchen. The grounds have been planted with a variety of gorgeous flower beds, trees, and vegetables.

The views are incredible. A set of stairs leads up the hill on the ocean side where you can perch on the cliff sitting on an enormous bench or one of the Stonehenge seats and take it all in. Getting up at dawn and taking in the sunrise is a particularly beautiful experience. There is also a fire pit where you can relax at night and enjoy the stars beside your own campfire.

For supplies, just outside the hills, you can find a large supermarket and the main road in the Ohara area of Isumi City has a variety of restaurants. Activities in the area include bathing in the surf at Onjuku Beach, shore fishing, sports fishing, hiking, surfing, golfing, bicycling and free tennis courts you can walk to from the property.

The hosts and owners Markus and Kyoko have lived in the area for years. Kyoko is actually born and raised locally so between them they provide a wealth of insider information to make your adventure as memorable as possible. Kyoko is a certified and licensed massage and acupuncture therapist so if you have some aches and pains be sure to book a session. Yoga sessions are also available and the garden grounds are an ideal place to practice.

交通方式

If you come by train from Tokyo or Narita, transport from Ohara station to the resort can be arranged in advance.
