Japanese Peony Garden in Tsukuba

Japan's largest peony garden

The Tsukuba Peony Garden opens today in Ibaraki, until late May. The 60,000 square meter Japanese garden has approximately 30,000 peony flowers representing 550 different varieties of Botan peonies and 215 varieties of Shakuyaku peonies. Some of these flowers can be as big as 15 inches across!

  • 9am–5pm (Last entry 4:30pm)
  • Adults 800 yen, Children (middle school and younger) 300 yen (20% off for groups of 20 or more)

Visitors to the park will be able to use the natural hot springs at Choju Onsen at the discounted price of 200 yen until May 31.

Access

  • Via the JR Joban Line Get off at Ushiku Sta. Take the bus bound for Midorino Sta. and get off at the Kukizaki-wakaguri stop (approx. 20 min). The garden is a 5 min walk from the bus stop.
  • Via the Tsukuba Express Get off at Midorino Station. Take the bus bound for Ushiku and get off at Kukizaki-wakaguri stop (approx. 20 min). The garden is a 5 min walk from the bus stop.
  • By car About an hour away by car from Tokyo, Ibaraki Airport, or Narita. Get off at Yatabe Interchange which is 5 min away from the garden.
