Autumn on the Ookagawa River

A great way to enjoy Yokohama’s best colors locally

Close to the southern end of the river near Sakuragicho, you will see the first of several trees covered in their bright red autumn foliage

These red trees will continue appearing for several hundred meters

Before gradually changing to orange

These orange leaves will then change again into yellow colored leaves

Koganecho Bridge is one of several points along the river where you’ll be treated to a multi-colored spectacle

Across the other side of the river near Minami-Oota Station is a small park which makes a great place to rest whilst gazing up at the bright yellow leaves

When continuing on northwards towards Gumiyoji Station, the setting becomes more residential and peaceful

With so many trees lined along the river their colorful tones add great vibrancy to the otherwise dull and often uninspiring landscape

Interestingly, as you advance further northwards along the river towards Gumiyoji Station many of the trees become even brighter and more vibrant

Many branches look as if they are desperately trying to reach out into the river

Many of the leaves contrast perfectly against the dull and pale tones of the river

Nearing the end! Some of the last colorful leaves you will see along the river before reaching Gumiyoji Station

Famous for its pink cherry blossoms during the spring, Yokohama`s Ookagawa River offers another chance to enjoy nature at its best with its beautiful autumn foliage.

Located only a short distance away from the bustling Minato Mirai district, this pleasant 5 kilometer walk provides a great escape away from the neon metropolis.

As you follow the river from JR`s Sakuragicho Station, you will be able to encounter a rich variety of multi colored leaves which seem to blend so naturally into the surrounding environment. When nearing the end of this walk, Gumiyoji Station provides your quick return back to `civilization`
