Established in 1997, Fukui City Museum (Art Lab Fukui) provides citizens not only a place to appreciate arts, but also opportunities to learn how to create arts. In the three ateliers inside (two for adults, and one for children), people can enjoy 'creating' various kinds of artwork.
Aside from special exhibitions, the museum regularly exhibits works of Hiroatsu Takada, a local sculptor who learned arts in a turbulent WWII France. The building was designed by iconic Japanese architect Kurokawa Kisho.
It is open from 9:00am to 5:15pm except for Mondays and days following holidays. Entrance fee is 100 yen for adults. The museum itself has large premises, but it's also adjacent to a spacious and verdant Geba Central Park. It's a great place just for a casual stroll!
