Viewpoint, Shimakeya

A rocky, but people-less clear water beach

A bike ride or drive through the village near Keya Beach can be a simple but pleasant experience, an escape from the excitement of Fukuoka's top resort. Going through the narrow streets toward the east in Shimakeya, just wide enough in places for a single car, one place to stop for a look at the coast is here. The shore is covered with smooth black rocks, but you’ll have the entire place to yourself. Waters can be very clear and views along the curvy shoreline are pretty, with Nogita Beach to the east and Keya no Ohto, a small green hill with basalt cliffs and a cave facing the sea, to the west.
